Red Dwarf - Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers
Yes my old Red Dwarf passion rears its ugly head, but when we moved house last month i found in a dusty corner my audio book of this excellent book.

Quite annoyingly it is on 6 audio cassette tapes but will not take much to convert to digital.

I got this many many years ago and it is read by Chris Barrie (who plays rimmer) he is a very good reader and where their is direct speech from whichever character Chris does a spot on impersonation of them making you feel more involved with the story.

If you like humorous stories or the dwarf in general this is an audio book i would heartily recommend and it would be dirt cheap now as its over 10 yrs old

I had the audio book of this on my ipod, was very good. I thought it was the real people doing the other voices though, it sounded just like them!

no barrie is an excellent mimic, cut his teeth on spitting image in the 80's doing a slew of character voices

They may have audio version at my local library. I'll have to check it out. The library still has a lot of audio books in cassette form.

PS My computer problems should be sorted now, though I'm currently wrestling with an unfamiliar windows 7 system.

I've checked the library catalogue and they do keep it on cassette. So when I take back my outstanding stuff I'll look out for it.

Been to the library and got 'Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers' and 'Better than Life', both on cassettes. They will accompany me when I'm washing the pots.

RE: Red Dwarf - Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers
I've just finished listening to Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers and Better than Life on cassettes. It was nice to hear them after recently reading them. The cassettes followed on to such an extent that they could easily have been boxed together as one continuous story, so I was pleased to get them both at the same time. Chris Barrie was able to give full reign to his impersonation skills.

When you add Lister's time on Garbage World to his time on Backwards World and then add in the other years, he sure had a long life. It reminds me of Marvin's fate (though, to a lesser extent) in the Hitchhiker stories. He parted with his friends at the end of the first book and then met them at 'The Restaurant at the end of the Universe', having spent millions of years parking cars. Smile
